Bio
Patricia started mountain bike racing in 1999. She finished 1st in her first race as a beginner at Beech Mountain, NC, one of the toughest courses around, and still a favorite of hers. In 2000 Patricia joined the Champion Hearts Team out of Winston-Salem and raced for them 3 years. Asheville did not have a woman’s bicycle racing team, so in 2003 Patricia decided to start one. Prestige Subaru had sponsored Patricia for three year while racing for Champion Hearts, so she asked them to become the title sponsor of the new Asheville women’s cycling team, Team Prestige Subaru. Patricia continued to race mountain bikes, moved up to the Expert Level, and was ranked 3rd in the Nation in her age group in 2003. Patricia also started cyclo-cross and road racing in 2002. After having her first child in 2004, Patricia is excited to be racing again in 2007, on the road, mountain bike, triathlons and duathlons. Her faith is evident on the jersey, BELIEVE and Peace, Love and Happiness to you.

Starting my own company
An all-woman’s racing team that has fluctuated in size anywhere from 9 members to about 15. We are not an elite team but rather hold full-time jobs, own companies, are mothers and students. We enjoy training hard and racing at our best. We support each other through trials related to the sport and life in general. We are a diverse team, racing road bikes, mountain bikes, cross-country, short track and downhill, track bikes, cyclo-cross, triathlons on and off-road, adventure races and foot races as well.
Has grown from just the members of Team Prestige Subaru to around 60 women. We also support each other on and off the bike.
We hold regular road and mountain bike rides, an Annual Women’s Self-Defense Class, numerous clinics on training and nutrition, and at least one Ladies First-timer Mountain Bike Ride per year. It is an awesome venue for women to meet other women, find training partners, and share in a common joy of riding and getting to know one another.
I am the youngest of four great athletes. My siblings; Theresa, Joe, Diane, and Mary are all involved in some sort of sport. Our parents, deceased, never pressured us to be athletes, but nurtured us, taught us self-discipline and instilled in each of us a desire to do our very best…the genetics weren’t too shabby either. Their love for God, each other, and each of us continues to inspire me to be more like them.
Most importantly I have to thank my sister Diane for my high school success and for much of my life success as well. Since my mother passed away in 1976 and both older siblings had moved away, Diane quickly stepped in to assume responsibility for my sister Mary and me, making sure we had clean clothes and meals. She rarely missed a track meet even after she graduated from Reynolds and more often than not was in the stands waving banners for me, taking pictures and cheering the loudest. She continues to do this to this day! She was by my side cheering me on to deliver my son. She has never stopped believing in me and is an excellent role model. She does not postpone joy but instead celebrates all of life even the tiny things. I am amazed by what she does for others and am incredibly blessed to have her in my life. Her love and dedication to our entire family is beyond words.
I graduated from A.B. Technical College with a degree in Business Administration, and then transferred to the University of North Carolina at Asheville. Although I am ashamed to say I did not graduate from U.N.C.A., I am happy to add that through hard work, dedication, friendliness and the ability to work well with others I advanced my career beyond my expectations. My employment record is a patch-work quilt, none of which I regret, nor would I change. Some of the more interesting things I’ve done include taking off to New York City by myself to pursue a career in modeling or fashion design, hated it there and returned to Asheville a week later but it felt like a year, Living Well Fitness Club Manager, Administrative Assistant and first Historian of The Grove Park Inn, contributor and editor of The History of the Grove Park Inn, a coffee table book written by Bruce Johnson, an extra in the movie “Dirty Dancing,” Horseback Trail Leader for the Biltmore Estate, Assistant to world renowned author and psychologist John E. Exner, Jr., who developed the Comprehensive System for the Rorschach ink blot test, invented a window treatment product, failed to get it patented but licensed it to Springs Industries, taught the window treatment sewing class at A.B. Technical College, Catering Manager of The Grove Park Inn, and the most rewarding job of my career, Director of Resident Life at Deerfield Episcopal Retirement Community. I now have the best and most important job of my life, stay-at-home mom.
